Buenos Aires - Argentina

Mi Buenos Aires querido, cuando yo te vuelva a ver, no habrá más penas ni olvido.....

Buenos Aires, one of the most important Latin American cities, is the capital of Argentina and the economical seat of the country.  This "astonishing city" has 3 million inhabitants and in Greater Buenos Aires there are 13 million people.   It has a wide range of architecture treasures, many of its streets recall those of Paris - France.  The "Teatro Colón"  is a renowned theater in the world, which is often visited by orchestras and musicians from everywhere.

The metropolitan area of "Baires," as called by its "Porteño"  natives has nearly one-third of the country's population.  Some locals of Buenos Aires (Bs.As.) speak "Lunfardo," a language which includes words like:  "bondi" for bus and "mina" for woman.  Because of Bs.As. location on the "Rio de la Plata" (the widest River Plate estuary in the world), flowing through Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay,  it is a trade hub for distribution in South America.

The best restaurant in Buenos Aires to eat empanadas is: "La Querencia," with its central location at the corner of  "Junin and  Juncal,"  in the fashionable district of Recoleta.  Its menu includes a range of empanadas clasicas: "carne cortada a cuchillo, jamón y queso (con azúcar quemado), cebolla y queso y humita."  Other "empanadas especiales" include: Atún (only available at Easter... !ay, qué lastimaaaa!), pollo, Italiana, albahaca, tambo (con 7 tipos de quesos... mmmm.. qué ricooo), acelga, de la huerta and especial de berenjenas.  The waitresses at "La Querencia" are friendly and you will wonder how they know "which empanada is which" when they bring it to you in basket.  But... shhhhhhh.. don't tell anyone,  the secret is the "shape" of the empanadas.  Buenos Aires' night life is quite varied and has excellent restaurants, cafeterias and lively discos for all tastes and economic levels, spreading all around the city.

It is a popular restaurant amongst the business lunch crowd and is a favorite of the famous "Teddy," who has been seen there eating "milanesa" for lunch with his renowned friend "Bernardino."  Not to be missed for a healthy lunch is " Lotos" restaurant (Cordóba y Montevideo); the staff greets you with a smile: "buenaaaas taaaaardes!"....  You won't find coffee, wines or alcohol here.. just nutritious food in a comfortable and clean environment.

The "Los Inmortales" restaurant a traditional pizzeria with two locations: Callao 1165 and Marcelo T. de Alvear 1256. It simply serves the "best pizza in the city."  There you will spot lots of photos of famous tango singers and dancers, including the "immortal Carlos Gardel."  Guests at this eatery have included "el maestro" Juan-Manuel Fangio, Tito Luisard and Pepe Arias, to name a few. It is a unique and interesting place to eat and it will make you feel like spontaneously singing:  "Mi Buenos Aires Querido!"
