When you view this production, you will experience the excitement of the racing world in 1955-56, with videos of vintage races with Benoît Musy in the Maserati 300S (No. 3057), famous for its unique "white bonnet." You will see famous racers of the time and Benoit's friends, including "el maestro," Juan Manuel Fangio (winner of 5 world championships), Joakim Bonnier, Alfonso de Portago, Harry Schell, Jean Behra, and other "racing legends" of the glorious 1950 decade.

You will also see Benoit Musy in 1955 with his new 300S at the Maserati factory in Modena, Italy. How the Maserati was transported to racing venues across Europe.  Extensive film footage of the 1956 Swedish Grand Prix, and 1955 at Oulton Park (England), where Benoît Musy broke the track lap record.

Racing has changed considerably over the past 4 decades and on this video you will appreciate how it was then in the mid 1950's: the racing track, pit stops, official control of the cars prior to racing, refueling with large funnels, the mechanics working and the people at the event. Included at the end is a pictorial montage with music of the many trophies won by Benoit Musy during his short racing career.

Biography of Benoît Musy

Benoit Musy was born on December 13, 1917 in Fribourg, Switzerland. His father, Dr. Jean Marie Musy, was a federal councilor and became President of Switzerland (1925-1930). During World War II, Benoit accompanied his father to rescue over "1,100 Jewish prisoners" from German concentration camps. Benoit married Consuelo Heusch, the daughter of Eduardo Heusch, the founder of Majorica Pearls (Mallorca, Spain).

From 1947 to 1953 Musy raced Moto Guzzi motorcycles on a professional basis. He was given the title of "Swiss Champion" (250 cc and 500 cc) six times in national and international races.

In 1954, Benoit Musy purchased a Maserati A6-GCS/53 racing car. He was the first Swiss racer to make the switch from motorcycle competition to racing cars. With this car he won his first race in 1954 at Spa- Francorchamps in Belgium, followed by the Monthlery track in France. At the Grand Prix des Frontieres, in Chimay, he also finished the race in first place.

In 1955 Benoit Musy, Swiss champion, ordered a new Maserati 300S (chassis No. 3057) from the Maserati factory in Modena, Italy. Musy won several races with this car in Europe, including: first place at Chimay, Karlskoga, and Sables d'Olonne: (trophies won).

Benoît Musy biography

Benoit Musy's life came to an end on the 7th of October, 1956 at the steering wheel of a Maserati 200S in Monthlery, France. The car's steering column broke while turning on a speed bank.

After his death in 1956, the race car was sold to the Angola Racing team. It was raced for a few years and then left neglected in Africa. More than three decades later, Stein Johnsen discovered the 300S and had it shipped to Norway. Following a two year rebuild at Church Green Engineering, England, Musy's race car was brought back to factory specifications. Today, this marvelous historic race car is back on the track under the watchful eye of Martin Stretton Racing.  This 300S was raced at the OldTimer Grand-Prix 2001 at Nürburgring.
