Benoit Musy

Jean-Marie Musy became Swiss Federal Councillor in 1919, and was elected twice President of Switzerland (1925-30).  From 1919 to 1932, he devoted all of his strength to the arduous task as the head of the Finance and Customs Department.

Jean-Marie Musy's eldest son, the brigadier colonel (General) Pierre Musy, was an outstanding horseman and, on two occasions, he won the "Cup of Nations" in Hanover.  He also added to his list of successes the "gold medal" at the Winter Olympic Games of 1936.

The second son of Jean-Marie Musy, Benoît Musy won six Swiss and International championships racing Moto Guzzi motorcyles at the beginning of the 1950's. In 1953 Benoît Musy moved to racing automobiles with Maserati cars, and he won numerous international titles.

The family of Jean-Marie Musy from Albeuve and Grandvillard (Switzerland) is already seen in the XIV century in the county of Gruyère. During the XV century, André Musy fought at the famous battle of Morat on June 22, 1476 (the Swiss against Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy).  It is noted that in the beginning of the XVI century, Noble Bernard de Musy was Lord of Romont and Châtel-Saint-Denis. From 1857 to 1873, Pierre-Joseph Musy, the grandfather of Jean-Marie Musy, was a delegate at the Great Council, a state councillor and the prefect (Chief Administrator) of the province of Gruyère.

In 1819 thirty people from Grandvillard, together with other Swiss compatriots, boarded a ship to reach the vast fields of Brazil. After a long and difficult trip, these families founded "New Fribourg" (Nova Friburgo) in Brazil. Amongst the people making the journey to Brasil were two Musy families from Grandvillard: Jean Antoine Musy and Jean Baptiste Musy.
